Overview

Copper is essential for electrical wiring, motors and the energy transition. Central Africa's Copperbelt, spanning the DRC and Zambia, is among the world's most significant copper regions.

Copper is traded at very different stages of processing. A buyer of cathode is asking quite different questions from a buyer of concentrate, so the intended form should be clear from the start.

Product forms and buyer considerations

Cathode
Refined copper plates for direct industrial use.
Concentrate
Upgraded ore for smelters, often containing payable cobalt or precious metals.
Oxide and sulphide ore
Unprocessed material for buyers with processing capacity.

Specifications to confirm

  • Product form and copper content by independent analysis
  • Penalty elements in concentrates
  • Quantity, packaging and shipping terms
  • Export licences and documentation

Due diligence

  • Verify the seller's title to the material.
  • Arrange independent inspection and sampling.
  • Be alert to misdescribed material, a known risk in copper trading.

The exact product form, specifications, documentation and availability must be confirmed for each proposed transaction. We do not publish prices, inventory, grades or delivery times.
