Export & Documentation

An overview of records commonly reviewed in mineral transactions. This guide explains general principles only. It is not legal advice and does not confirm that any transaction is compliant.

Why Documentation Matters

Documentation helps establish what a product is, where it came from, who has the right to sell it and whether it can lawfully be exported and imported. Requirements differ by mineral, country of export and destination market, and they change over time.

Records Commonly Reviewed

Licences and Permits

Evidence of the seller's authorisation to deal in or export the mineral, issued by the relevant national authority.

Assay or Laboratory Reports

Test results describing composition, ideally from an independent and recognised laboratory.

Origin and Chain-of-Custody Records

Information supporting where the material was produced and how it has been handled since.

Commercial and Customs Documents

Items such as commercial invoices, packing lists, export declarations and transport documents.

Practical Principles

Verify documents directly with the issuing authority or laboratory where possible.

Check destination-market import rules and any applicable responsible-sourcing expectations.

Seek advice from qualified legal, customs and compliance professionals for each specific transaction.
